The Wright State baseball team led 1-0 heading into the fifth, but it was all Monmouth from there as the Hawks scored four in that inning and two more in the sixth en route to a 10-2 decision in the season opener for both teams Friday at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, North Carolina.

The Raiders started the scoring with a run in the second. Tristan Moore led off with a single through the right side of the infield and scored one out later as Zach Tanner doubled to right center.

It stayed that way until Monmouth scored four in the fifth and two more in the sixth to go up for good.

WSU tallied its final run in the eighth as Justin Kopale doubled down the left field line and Corey Davis plated him with a hit to left, but would get no closer as Monmouth tacked on four more runs in the ninth.

Both Moore and Ryan Ashe each had two hits to pace the Raider offense while on the mound, Jack Van Horn and Luke Mamer each pitched a scoreless inning in their college debuts.

Wright State returns to action Saturday with a pair of games, taking Bryant at 11:00 at the USA Baseball Complex before heading to Raleigh to face North Carolina State at 3:00.
