3/16/2012 4:00:00 AM | Baseball
The Wright State baseball team finished with one more hit than UIC (8-7), but it was the Flames that came away with a 5-1 win in the Horizon League opener for both teams Friday night at Nischwitz Stadium.
The game was scoreless until UIC tallied a pair of runs in the fourth and another in the fifth. The Raiders cut the deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth as Jake Hibberd had a one-out single, went to second on a Corey Davis hit to center, third as Tristan Moore was hit by a pitch and scored on a Ryan Ashe sacrifice fly to left.
The Flames, however, scored a pair of insurance runs in the seventh for the final margin.
Hibberd led the WSU offense with three hits.
Wright State (6-9, 0-1 Horizon) continues the three-game series with the Flames Saturday with a single game starting at 2:00.
