The Wright State baseball team broke open a close game with five runs in the sixth and two more in the eighth in posting an 8-0 shutout win over UIC Saturday afternoon at Nischwitz Stadium.

The Raiders took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the first. Jake Hibberd led off with a hit to left and moved up to second on a Corey Davis sacrifice. One out later, Ryan Ashe delivered a single to right center to drive in Hibberd.

It stayed that way for the next four innings as both starters--WSU's Cody Kopilchack and UIC's Brian Evak--were locked into a pitcher's duel. That all changed, however, as Wright State came to bat in the bottom of the sixth.

Tristan Moore led off with a double down the left field line and after advancing to third on an Ashe bunt, Sam Picchiotti walked to put runners on first and third. Justin Kopale then followed with a squeeze bunt towards second that plated Moore to make it 2-0 and advance Picchiotti to second.

After Kyle Mossbarger walked, Kody Krizman singled in Picchiotti and a wild pitch allowed Mossbarger to score the third run. The final two runs of the inning later came on a Michael Timm double and a Hibberd single.

WSU rounded out the scoring in the eighth as Davis walked with the bases loaded to force in a run and Moore had a sacrifice fly to right.

Kopilchack (2-2) went the first seven innings, scattering four hits and four walks while striking out four. Jack Van Horn and Andrew Elliott each pitched an inning with a strikeout to complete the shutout.

Hibberd, Moore and Timm each had two hits for the Raiders, with Mossbarger and Timm scoring twice.

Wright State (7-9, 1-1 Horizon) wraps up the three-game series with UIC Sunday with a single game starting at 1:00.
