The baseball team tried to rally in the ninth with two runs and had the potential tying run at the plate, but fell short in a 10-7 setback to Southeast Missouri Friday at Nischwitz Stadium.

The Redhawks tallied a single run in the first and two more in the fourth before the Raiders got on the scoreboard with a run in their half of the fourth. With one out, Tristan Moore singled up the middle and advance to second on a throwing error. One out later, Justin Kopale doubled down the right field line to drive in Moore.

WSU tied the game at 3-3 with a pair in the fifth on a two-run Jake Hibberd single, only to see Southeast Missouri go back in front with two of its own in the sixth and three more in the seventh.

Kopale and Kyle Mossbarger both drove in runs in the seventh to make it 8-5, but a two-run home run from Trenton Moses, the reigning Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year, pushed the margin to 10-5 in the eighth.

It stayed that way until Wright State's rally in the ninth. After Moore walked and Ryan Ashe singled to start the frame, Kopale doubled in Moore and Mossbarger walked to load the bases. A Kody Krizman groundout made 10-7 with two runners in scoring position, but the Raiders would get no closer as a strikeout and a groundout ended the game.

All nine WSU starters had a hit on the night, but Kopale was the only one with more than one as he had two hits and drove in three. Hibberd knocked in two while Moore and Ashe each scored twice.

Wright State (4-7) continues the three-game series with Southeast Missouri Saturday with a single game starting at 2:00.
