Box Score The Wright State men's basketball team tied a school record for fewest points allowed in the first half Tuesday night in winning the home opener over Mount St. Joseph 66-52 at WSU's Nutter Center.
WSU led throughout the contest as the Raiders scored the first eight points and later went up 22-5 at the 6:45 mark following another 8-0 burst. The margin grew to as much as 19 down the stretch in the period, including a Joe Thomasson jumper with two seconds left to make it 31-12 at halftime.
Wright State made 14 of 34 shots in the first half for 41 percent while the Lions, despite going seven of eight at the foul line, made just two of 18 shots for 11 percent.
The 12 points allowed by WSU in the first half tied a school record for fewest points allowed in a half as the Raiders gave up 12 in a 66-43 decision over Norfolk State on December 17, 2008, also at Wright State's Nutter Center.
WSU maintained a double-digit advantage in the second half as the Raiders shot 45 percent for the game and made 14 of 17 free throws while Mount St. Joseph shot 29 percent overall and was 21 of 25 at the line. Wright State led in points in the paint (40-14), points off of turnovers (16-15) and second-chance points (10-5).
Three Raiders scored in double figures, led by Thomasson's 17 points. The senior guard also added six rebounds and five assists. Michael Karena had 12 points off the bench while Mark Alstork chipped in 11 along with six boards.
Wright State (2-3) hits the road on Saturday, November 28, with a 4:00 contest at George Mason.
