Men Roll Past Albion 68-50

The Wright State men's basketball team shot 52 percent from the field and nearly led throughout in posting a 68-50 victory over Albion Tuesday night at the Wright State Nutter Center.

The Raiders tallied the first five points of the contest, only to see the Britons tie the game with five straight of their own.  WSU, though, went in front for good with a 14-2 run, four each coming from Michael Karena and Biggie Minnis, making his Wright State debut.

Albion cut the deficit to 27-19 on a Corey Wheeler three with 4:05 remaining in the first half, but the Raiders answered with seven consecutive points, capped off with baskets from Justin Mitchell and Grant Benzinger, and went into halftime up 34-22.

WSU shot 47 percent from the field overall in the first half and was three of seven from three-point range while Albion shot 31 percent and was four of 12 from behind the arc.

The Raiders maintained a double-digit advantage the remainder of the game, with the biggest margin being 58-34 on a Minnis jumper with 8:30 to play.

Wright State hit 15 of 26 shots in the second half, including 14 of 19 from inside the three-point arc, to end up at 52 percent overall, while the Britons shot 31 percent for the contest.  WSU led in points in the paint (46-18), points off of turnovers (14-9) and fast-break points (10-0).

Karena paced WSU with 17 points off the bench while Minnis also came off the bench and chipped in 10.  Mark Alstork added nine points.

Wright State (3-4) hosts Georgia State Friday night at 7:30 in the second game of a doubleheader as the WSU women will take on Butler at 5:00.
