Box Score The Wright State men's basketball team led by three midway through the second half, only to see Miami go in front for good with a 16-4 run as the RedHawks held on for a 72-67 decision Sunday at Millett Hall.
WSU jumped out to a 13-3 advantage seven minutes into the contest, capped off by a Mark Hughes three, and the Raiders maintained the lead until Miami went up 27-26 on a Chris Bryant dunk with 4:04 remaining in the first half.
A Grant Benzinger three tied it at 32 and Wright State regained the edge with two Hughes foul shots before two free throws by Bryant evened the score at 34 heading into halftime.
WSU shot 46 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes, including six of 11 from three-point range, and was six of 10 at the foul line while the RedHawks shot 33 percent, were just three of 13 from behind the arc, but made 11 of 13 at the line.
Biggie Minnis connected on a triple at the 10:17 mark to put the Raiders back in front 50-47, but that turned out to be the final lead of the day for Wright State as Miami followed with the decisive 16-4 run to go up 63-54 with 4:49 left.
JT Yoho drew WSU to within four at 67-63 with a fast-break layup with 31 seconds to play, only to see the RedHawks hit five of six free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
Miami shot 57 percent in the second half to finish at 43 percent and made 23 of 28 free throws while Wright State shot 37 percent after halftime to end up at 41 percent and hit just six of 16 from the line.
Yoho led the Raiders with 17 points while Benzinger had 15 and Hughes 13 off the bench.
Wright State (3-7) begins a three-game homestand on Thursday, December 17, against Charleston Southern at 7:00.
