Men Dominate Second Half to Defeat Bowling Green

Box Score

The Wright State men's basketball team scorched the nets for 76 percent in the second half in outscoring Bowling Green 48-20 to defeat the Falcons 83-47 Sunday at WSU's Nutter Center.

The Falcons scored the first five points of the game, but turned out to be the only lead of the day for Bowling Green as Joe Thomasson answered with seven straight points to give WSU the advantage for good.  Wright State extended the margin to 18-8 on a JT Yoho three at the 11:26 mark and maintained that double-digit margin at 30-19 as Mark Alstork hit a three with 4:14 remaning.

BGSU, though, stormed back to within in five before two Thomasson foul shots helped the Raiders enjoy a 35-27 halftime lead.

The first half shooting percentages were nearly similar as Wright State shot 35 percent compared to 33 percent for Bowling Green, but the Raiders hit six of 18 three-pointers and were nine of 10 at the foul line while the Falcons were just one of five from behind the arc and eight of 11 at the stripe.

WSU exploded out of the gates in the second half with a 15-4 run, seven by Yoho, to go up 50-31 five minutes into the period.

After a Falcon layup, a Grant Benzinger three made it a 20-point contest and Wright State gradually built on the advantage the rest of the way, leading by as much as 83-45 in the final minute.

The Raiders made 16 of 21 shots in the second half, including seven of 10 three-pointers, to finish at 52 percent overall and 13 of 28 from behind the arc.  Bowling Green, meanwhile, shot just 28 percent for the contest and was only two of 13 from three.

Yoho paced all scorers with 22 points off the bench while Alstork had 19, Thomasson 13 along with seven rebounds and six assists and Benzinger 11.  Altogether, 10 Raiders dented the scoring column.

Wright State (5-7) wraps up the nonleague portion of its schedule on Tuesday, December 22, as the Raiders host Murray State at 7:00.
