Box Score The Wright State men's basketball team could not overcome Georgia State shooting 68 percent in the second half as the Panthers won 59-46 Friday night at WSU's Nutter Center.
Neither team had more than a four-point advantage in the first half as there were three ties and four lead changes in the period. WSU went up 19-16 on a Daniel Mortensen three at the 3:32, only to see Georgia State score eight of the final nine points to go up 24-20 at the break.
GSU shot 39 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes compared to 25 percent for the Raiders, but Wright State countered by hitting five of 10 three-point attempts while Georgia State was just one of five.
A Grant Benzinger three drew the Raiders to within one to start the second half before the Panthers followed with a 19-4 run over the next eight minutes to take a 43-27 lead.
WSU cut the deficit to 51-44 on a Joe Thomasson three and two Justin Mitchell foul shots with 2:53 left, but could get no closer.
Georgia State made 13 of 19 shots in the second half to end the game at 52 percent overall and made 13 of 15 foul shots while the Raiders shot 33 percent despite hitting nine of 21 three-pointers and were just five of six at the stripe. The Panthers led 32-10 in points in the paint and 22-7 in points off of turnovers.
JT Yoho paced WSU with 15 points and seven rebounds off the bench while Benzinger had nine points.
Wright State (3-5) hits the road for two games against local rivals next week, taking on nationally-ranked Xavier on Tuesday, December 8, at 7:00, followed by Miami on Sunday, December 13, at 1:30.
