Box Score The Wright State baseball team closed out its weekend in Nashville Saturday with a 7-4 win over Toledo.
WSU took the early lead with a run in the first. Mark Fowler led off with a hit to left and advanced to third on a stolen base and a throwing error. Andrew McCafferty followed with a grounder to short that plated Fowler with the run.
Toledo, though, answered with two in the top of the second and added another run in the seventh to go up 3-1 before the Raiders tied it in their half of the seventh. With two outs and no one on base, John Brodner started the rally with a single to left and after Gabe Snyder had a hit to right, Mitch Roman drove both in with a double to right.
The Rockets went back in front with a run in the eighth, only to see WSU respond with four in the bottom of the frame to go ahead to stay. Singles by Fowler and Sean Murphy along with a Michael Timm walk loaded the bases for Ryan Fucci, who cleared them with a grand slam home run.
It was Wright State's second grand slam in as many days as Derreck Garcia hit one in a 14-7 win over Belmont on Friday.
Andrew Elliott struck out one in pitching a scoreless ninth for his first save of the season. E.J. Trapino (1-0) was the winning pitcher as he recorded the final out in the eighth.
Fucci finished with three hits along with the four RBI while Fowler had two hits and two runs scored.
The Raiders were scheduled to also face Belmont on Saturday, but that game was cancelled due to cold conditinos.
Wright State (3-0) is back on the road next weekend (February 20-22) for a three-game series at Ole Miss. The Raiders and Rebels will play single games on Friday (5:00 Eastern), Saturday (2:30) and Sunday (2:30).
