Box Score It was a case of déjà vu for the Wright State baseball team Saturday as, like Friday, the Raiders had a lead going into the bottom of the ninth, only to see #11 Miami rally with two runs to pull out a 4-3 win in Coral Gables, Florida.
WSU opened the scoring with two runs in the first. Mark Fowler led off with a double to left and moved up to third on a Michael Timm ground out. Andrew McCafferty singled in Fowler and later scored as Sean Murphy reached on an infield hit and went to second on an error.
Wright State extended its lead to 3-0 in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Brad Macciocchi and, despite Miami tallying single runs in the sixth and eighth, the Raiders still had a 3-2 edge going into the bottom of the ninth.
The Hurricanes, however, rallied for two runs in that frame to pull out the victory.
Mitch Roman had two hits to pace the Raider offense while on the mound, starter Jesse Scholtens had another solid outing, allowing no earned runs in 5.2 innings while striking out four. In three starts, covering 18.2 innings, the junior righthander has given up just one earned run with 17 strikeouts.
Wright State (4-4) and Miami (8-3) close out the three-game series Sunday with a single game at 1:00.
