Box Score The Wright State baseball team improved to 11-0 at home this season Tuesday night, holding off a late Cincinnati rally to defeat the Bearcats 5-3 at Nischwitz Stadium.
The Raiders took advantage of four walks in scoring three runs in the second. Walks to Ryan Fucci, John Brodner and Matt Morrow loaded the bases for Mitch Roman, who delivered a two-run single to center with two outs. Andrew McCafferty then followed with a RBI single to make it 3-0.
WSU's lead grew in the fourth as Sean Murphy tripled to left center and came in on a Brodner sacrifice fly and the margin increased to 5-0 in the sixth as Murphy doubled down the left field line and eventually scored on a wild pitch.
Cincinnati cut the deficit to 5-3 with three runs in the eighth, but would get no closer as Logan Blair picked up his second save of the season by retiring the Bearcats in order in the ninth, striking out one.
Jeremy Randolph (4-0) earned the win with five shutout innings, fanning a season-high six in scattering two hits and a walk. E.J. Trapino and Jack Van Horn, along with Blair, each threw a scoreless inning in relief. Altogether, five Raider pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts in the game.
Offensively, Roman finished with three hits and two RBI while Murphy had two hits and two runs scored.
Wright State (19-7) heads to the Windy City this weekend as the Raiders take on UIC in a three-game Horizon League series, starting with a single game Thursday at 7:00 Eastern time.
