Box Score Up just 1-0 after five innings, the Wright State baseball team scored six runs in the sixth and went on to a 9-0 decision over Youngstown State in the series finale Sunday at Nischwitz Stadium.
The Raiders scored an unearned run in the first as Mitch Roman reached on an error, went to third on a Michael Timm hit to left and scored on Sean Murphy's sacrifice fly to center.
It stayed 1-0 through five and one-half innings as WSU starter Trevor Swaney pitched six shutout innings, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out five while YSU starter Jeremy Quinlan gave up just the unearned run in five innings on two hits and no walks while striking out three.
The sixth, however, would be a different story as Wright State sent 10 batters to the plate in scoring six times. A Timm sacrifice fly drove in the first run and an Andrew McCafferty single throught the left side of the infield made it 3-0. Ryan Fucci plated another run with a RBI single to left before Gabe Snyder provided the big blow, a three-run home run down the right field line, his fourth of the season.
The Raiders added another run in the seventh and rounded out the scoring in the eighth as Fucci cracked his seventh home run of the year, a solo shot to left.
After Swaney pitched the first six innings, Jack Van Horn, Logan Blair and Andrew Elliott completed the shutout as each threw a scoreless inning, with each also picking up a strikeout.
Offensively, Mark Fowler, Timm, Fucci and Matt Morrow each had two hits for WSU, with Snyder driving in three and Murphy and Fucci two a piece.
Wright State (22-10) will compete this week at the Joe Nuxhall Classic, hosted by the University of Cincinnati at Marge Schott Stadium. The Raiders face Miami in the opener Tuesday at 3:00.
