Box Score The Wright State baseball team extended its winning streak to six on Saturday, scoring three times in the 11th inning for a 5-2 victory at Oakland.
WSU picked up a run in the second and after the Golden Grizzlies tied it in the bottom of the inning, the Raiders went in front 2-1 with another run in the third. With one out, Mitch Roman singled up the middle, stole second and scored on a two-out double to left by Michael Timm.
It stayed that way until Oakland tied the game and forced extra innings with a run in the eighth. Both teams left the bases loaded in the ninth and the Golden Grizzlies stranded a runner at third in the 10th.
The Raiders finally broke the deadlock in the 11th. Singles by Sean Murphy and Matt Morrow put runners on the corners and Ryan Fucci followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Murphy. After Morrow stole second and went to third on a wild pitch, he scored as Andrew McCafferty had a hit up the middle.
McCafferty later scored as John Brodner, who singled, was caught in a rundown between first and second.
Oakland had its leadoff batter reach second in the bottom of the inning, but Andrew Elliott closed out the game in style, striking out the final three batters to seal the win.
Elliott (3-2) struck out five in three shutout inning to earn the win, giving up two hits and a walk. Starter Luke Mamer went 6.1 innings, allowing one earned run as he struck out seven.
Murphy finished with four hits and two runs scored to pace the Raider offense while Morrow had three hits.
Wright State (26-10, 12-4 Horizon) closes out the series Sunday, with the game moved up to 11 am from 1 pm due to potential weather issues later in the day.
