Box Score For the second consecutive day, the 11th was the winning inning for the Wright State baseball team as they tallied five runs on Sunday to win at Oakland 8-3.
The Raiders took advantage of an error to score two runs in the top of the first, only to see the Golden Grizzlies go in front 3-2 with a run in the fourth and two more in the sixth.
WSU tied the game with a run in the eighth. Michael Timm singled up the middle and stole second and Matt Morrow's triple down the right field line plated pinch-runner Derreck Garcia.
Wright State tried to take the lead in the ninth on a hit by Gabe Snyder, but Andrew McCafferty was called out on a collision play at the plate. Oakland then loaded the bases in its half of the ninth, but Jack Van Horn induced a ground out to force extra innings.
Ryan Fucci started the Raider rally in the 11th with a one-out double to center. Brad Macciocchi then hit a grounder to short that the Golden Grizzlies tried to retire Fucci on, but he avoided the tag at third as Macciocchi went into second. After an intentional walk to John Brodner, Snyder singled up the middle on an 0-2 pitch to make it 5-3.
One out later, Mark Fowler doubled down the left field line to drive in Brodner and Garcia followed with a bloop single to center to knock in Snyder and Fowler with the final two runs of the inning.
Oakland collected three hits against Van Horn in the bottom of the 11th, but did not score as the junior righthander (3-1) earned the win with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.
Offensively, Snyder finished with four hits and two RBI while Fowler, Sean Murphy and Morrow each had two hits.
Wright State (27-10, 13-4 Horizon) hosts a pair of midweek games at Nischwitz Stadium, taking on crosstown rival Dayton on Tuesday and Miami on Wednesday, both starting at 6:30.
