Box Score The Wright State baseball team held a 3-0 lead through five innings, but a six-run sixth turned out to be the difference as Youngstown State defeated the Raiders 6-3 Sunday at Eastwood Field.
WSU picked up a run to open the scoring in the second. With one out, Ryan Fucci walked and went to third on a Gabe Snyder hit to right. After Snyder stole second, John Brodner reached on an infield single to third as Fucci scored.
Brodner drove in another run in the fourth as his single to left plated Snyder, who walked and advanced to second on an Andrew McCafferty sacrifice. The Raiders then went up 3-0 in the fifth as Mark Fowler doubled to right center, went to third on a Michael Timm grounder and scored on a Sean Murphy ground out to short.
That lead, though, disappeared as the Penguins sent 10 batters to the plate in tallying six runs in the bottom of the sixth, taking advantage of six hits and a pair of WSU errors.
Wright State posed a threat in the ninth, loading the bases on a Snyder walk and singles by McCafferty and Mitch Roman, but a double play ended the game.
Offensively, Brodner led the way for the Raiders with two hits and two RBI while on the mound, Andrew Elliott pitched two scoreless inning in relief, striking out four.
Wright State (30-12, 14-6 Horizon) hosts UIC in a key Horizon League series next weekend at Nischwitz Stadium, with the opener set for Friday night at 6:30.
