Box Score The Wright State baseball team used sacrifice flies in each of the middle three innings to erase an early 1-0 deficit and went on to a 4-1 decision over Valparaiso Friday night at Nischwitz Stadium.
Valpo opened the scoring with a run in the top of the fourth, only to see the Raiders answer with a run of their in the bottom of the inning as Michael Timm led off with a triple to right center and scored on a Mitch Roman sacrifice fly to left.
WSU took the lead for good in the fifth as Sean Murphy doubled down the left field line, went to third on a Matt Morrow and came in on Timm's sacrifice fly to left.
Wright State extended the advantage to 3-1 in the sixth on a Roman triple and Ryan Fucci sacrifice fly to left and Fucci made it 4-1 in the eighth with a RBI single to left.
Jeremy Randolph (7-0) picked up the win with two innings of scoreless relief. Andrew Elliott earned his ninth save of the year and second in as many days as he retired the side in order in the ninth, striking out two. E.J. Trapino also pitched two scoreless innings for the Raiders, fanning four.
Offensively, Roman had two hits and Fucci drove in two.
Wright State (37-14, 20-8 Horizon) and Valparaiso (21-28, 15-13 Horizon) close out the series and the regular season Saturday at noon. The game has been moved up an hour due to a forecast of rain later in the day. Following the contest, WSU will recognize its seven seniors--Elliott, Mark Fowler, Luke Mamer, Andrew McCafferty, Darion Nunn, Cody Simon and Timm.
