Box Score The Wright State baseball team was outhit on the day 14-9, but came up with the plays it needed to in defeating Milwaukee 7-1 in the first game of a Horizon League series Friday at Henry Aaron Field.
WSU scored four runs in the first three innings to take control of the game at 4-0. A Sean Murphy double and groundouts by Michael Timm and Mark Fowler produced a run in the first. The Raiders then took advantage of an error in the second to add two more runs and another error in the third in scoring one more run.
A Mitch Roman single and a Gabe Snyder double resulted in a run in the fifth and Roman rounded out the Wright State scoring with a solo home run in the eighth, his first as a Raider, and a RBI single in the ninth.
WSU starter Luke Mamer (3-2) allowed nine hits and hit two batters in five innings, but maintained a shutout as the Panthers left the bases loaded in the fifth and two on in the first, second and third. Mamer finished with five strikeout and no walks. Logan Blair , E.J. Trapino and Anderson Hasting combined for four innings of one-run relief.
Offensively, Roman finished with three hits, two RBI and two runs scored while Murphy and Snyder each had two hits.
Wright State (33-13, 17-7 Horizon) and Milwaukee (30-17, 12-12 Horizon) will close out the series with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 Eastern on Saturday due to weather concerns for Sunday.
