Men Defeat UIC for Donlon's 100th Win

Box Score

The Wright State men's basketball team wrapped up a 5-0 homestand and won its sixth straight overall Sunday afternoon with an 80-66 Horizon League decision over UIC at WSU's Nutter Center.

The Flames led 17-11 following a three-point play by Dikembe Dixson at the 12:23 mark of the first half before the Raiders tallied seven straight points to regain the lead, five of those coming from JT Yoho

UIC then took a 19-18 advantage on two Markese McGuire foul shots with 9:33 remaining before Wright State went in front to stay with a 10-0 burst over the next two minutes, including four more by Yoho.

The margin grew to as much as 44-29 on a Biggie Minnis three in the final minute before the Flames scored the last three points of the half.

WSU scorched the net for 62 percent in the opening 20 minutes, including four of nine from three-point range, while UIC shot 40 percent overall and was just one of four from behind the arc.

The Flames closed to within seven early in the second half before Mark Alstork pushed the margin back into double figures with back-to-back three-pointers.  UIC would get no closer than nine the rest of the way as the Raiders led by as much as 19 twice, the final time at 80-61 on two Parker Ernsthausen free throws with 1:32 left.

The win was the 100th for sixth-year Wright State head coach Billy Donlon in his career, all at the helm of the Raiders.

WSU shot 54 percent for the contest, including nine of 21 three-pointers, and led 19-8 in points off of turnovers and 13-0 in fast-break points.  The Flames, meanwhile, shot 42 percent, but hit just two of 12 three-pointers and 20 of 35 foul shots.

Alstork led the Raiders with a near double-double of 19 points and nine rebounds while Yoho had 16 points off the bench, Minnis 13 points and six assists off the bench and Grant Benzinger 11 points.

Dixson paced all scorers with a near double-double of 29 points and nin rebounds for UIC (2-17, 0-8 Horizon) while Tai Odiase had 13.

Wright State (13-8, 7-1 Horizon) heads to Michigan for two games next weekend, taking on Oakland on Friday, January 29, followed by Detroit on Sunday, January 31.
