Men Fall at Oakland

Box Score

The Wright State men's basketball team shot 46 percent for the game, but could not overcome a 55 percent shooting night by Oakland as the Golden Grizzlies defeated the Raiders 89-63 Friday night in Rochester, Michigan.

Oakland broke an early 4-4 tie with five straight points and a 16-3 run, seven coming from Kay Felder, gave the Golden Grizzlies a 25-9 advantage with eight minutes remaining in the first half en route to a 41-26 halftime lead.

Oakland hit 14 of 27 shots in the opening minutes for 52 percent and was 10 of 13 at the foul line compared to 39 percent field goal shooting for the Raiders, who were two of four at the stripe.

The Golden Grizzlies maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way as they shot 57 percent in the second half to end up at 55 percent for the game.  Oakland also hit 11 of 13 foul shots the final 20 minutes to finish at 21 of 24 overall and led 42-24 in points in the paint, 22-13 in points off of turnovers and 13-2 in second-chance points.

WSU, meanwhile, shot 55 percent in the second half to end the night at 46 percent altogether, but was just 10 of 19 at the foul line.

Mark Alstork led the way for the Raiders with 10 points while Joe Thomasson had nine and JT Yoho eight.  With those eight points, Yoho became the 30th member of Wright State's 1,000 Point Club.

Felder paced Oakland (14-8, 6-3 Horizon) with 33 points while Martez Walker had 19 and Percy Gibson 12, both coming off the bench.

Wright State (13-9, 7-2 Horizon) begins the second round of Horizon League play on Sunday, January 31, with a 1:00 contest at Detroit.
