Box Score The Wright State men's basketball team rallied from a seven-point deficit in the second half to lead by one with 2:34 left, only to see Detroit score 12 of the game's final 16 points to defeat the Raiders 75-68 Sunday afternoon at Calihan Hall.
WSU scored the first eight points of the contest, including back-to-back threes by Grant Benzinger, and later went up 24-13 at the 9:37 mark on a jumper and three from JT Yoho. The margin was still 10 on a Mark Alstork three-point play before the Titans scored the final four points to make it 35-29 at the half.
Wright State hit 14 of 25 shots in the opening 20 minutes for 56 percent compared to just 36 percent for Detroit, but the Titans also made 10 of 13 free throws while the Raiders were four of five.
Detroit opened the second half with an 17-5 run to go up six and a Paris Bass jumper with 5:44 remaining gave the Titans a 60-53 advantage.
The Raiders, however, would answer with an 11-3 burst as a Yoho three-point play at the 2:34 mark gave WSU a 64-63 edge.
Detroit, though, would take control from there with seven straight points, all at the foul line, and after Alstork trimmed the deficit to four on a layup with just a minute left, a Bass dunk and two more foul shots put the game out of reach.
Wright State shot 55 percent for the game, but was just five of 17 from behind the arc and hit seven of 10 free throws while the Titans shot 48 percent, were seven of 16 from three-point range and connected on 28 of 37 foul shot attempts, 18 of 24 in the second half.
Yoho, who became the 30th WSU player to reach the 1000 point plateau Friday at Oakland, led the Raiders with a career-high 31 points Sunday, hitting 13 of 15 shots in the process. Alstork added 14 points while Joe Thomasson had nine and Benzinger eight.
Anton Wilson hit five three-pointers en route to a team-high 18 points off the bench for Detroit (10-11, 4-6 Horizon) while Jaleel Hogan had 13, Josh McFolley 12, Jarod Williams 11.
Wright State (13-10, 7-3 Horizon) returns home to face Milwaukee on Thursday, February 4, and Green Bay on Saturday, February 6, with both games starting at 7:00.
