Box Score The Wright State men's basketball team saw an eight-point lead slip away in the final three minutes, but a Joe Thomasson foul shot in the closing seconds lifted the Raiders to an 84-83 Horizon League win over Milwaukee Thursday night at the WSU Nutter Center.
WSU went up 22-12 following a Mark Alstork layup with 11:24 remaining in the first half and the margin extended to 35-15 at the 8:55 mark as the Raiders went on a 10-2 run, capped off by a JT Yoho basket.
Milwaukee, though, quickly answered with a 15-5 burst over the next four minutes and the Raider advantage remained 10 at 52-42 at halftime.
Wright State hit 19 of 27 shots in the opening 20 minutes for 70 percent, including seven of nine from three-point range, and was seven of eight at the foul line. The Panthers, meanwhile, shot 57 percent from the field overall, were five of 10 from behind the arc, and made 13 of 19 free throws.
The Raider lead seesawed between seven and 15 for most of the second half until two Jordan Johnson foul shot drew UWM to within six at 76-70 with 3:30 left. The margin was still six in the final minute until a J.R. Lyle three and an Akeem Springs layup made it 82-81 with 17 seconds to play.
Yoho hit one of two foul shots on WSU's next possession, only to see Matt Tiby tie the game with two free throws with five seconds remaining.
Thomasson, however, was fouled on the following play and hit the first of two free throws for the final margin.
The Raiders shot 56 percent overall, were 11 of 19 from three and hit 17 of 24 foul shots compared to 53 percent overall shooting, nine of 19 from three, and 26 of 34 free throws for the Panthers.
After scoring a career-high 31 points Sunday at Detroit, Yoho followed that up with 29 against the Panthers, 21 in the first half, while Thomasson had 15 off the bench and Alstork had 14.
Springs had 21 to pace Milwaukee (15-8, 6-4 Horizon) while Austin Arians and Johnson each had 16 and Tiby 10.
Wright State (14-10, 8-3 Horizon) hosts Green Bay Saturday night at 7:00.
