The Wright State baseball team rallied from a 3-1 deficit with single runs in the sixth and seventh, only to see Georgia scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth for a 4-3 decision Friday at Foley Field.
The Bulldogs scored a run in the third before the Raiders tied it with one in the fifth as Zach Weatherford led off with his first collegiate home run to left. Georgia, however, quickly regained the lead with two in the bottom of the frame.
WSU cut the deficit to 3-2 in the sixth on Peyton Burdick's second home run of the season, a solo shot to left, and then tied it with a run in the seventh. With two out, Mitch Roman tripled to center and Ryan Fucci drove him in with a hit to left.
It stayed that way until Georgia pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.
Wright State, who outhit the Bulldogs 7-6, was led by Roman's two hits. On the mound, starter Jesse Scholtens went 6.2 innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs while striking out three.
Wright State (5-5) and Georgia (7-3) continue the three-game series Saturday at 1:00.
