The Wright State baseball team broke open a 4-2 game late in rolling to a 9-2 victory over Milwaukee in the series finale Sunday at Kapco Park in Mequon, Wisconsin.

The Raiders jumped out to an early 4-0 lead on a Daniel Arthur RBI double in the first, a two-run triple by Mitch Roman in the second and a RBI single from Gabe Snyder in the third.

UWM cut the deficit in half with two in the third, but WSU starter Caleb Sampen (5-0) would pitch five shutout innings from there, holding the Panthers to two hits.

Jason DeFevers led off the sixth with his second home run of the season to left and a later Orr single in the inning drove in Matt Morrow to make it 6-2. Snyder doubled in Peyton Burdick in the seventh and Wright State rounded out the scoring in the ninth on a DeFevers hit and a John Brodner sacrifice fly.

Orr, Arthur, Snyder, DeFevers, Morrow and Brodner each had two hits to pace the WSU offense while Roman, Snyder and DeFevers each drove in two.

The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was cancelled and will not be made up.

Wright State (20-10, 8-3 Horizon) will compete in the annual Joe Nuxhall Classic this week in Oxford, taking on Cincinnati in the opener on Tuesday, April 12, at 3:00. The Raiders won last year's Classic and have won three of the previous seven.
