Three Raiders Combine for One-Hitter Against Cincinnati

Three Wright State pitchers combined for a one-hitter Tuesday afternoon as the Raiders defeated Cincinnati 6-1 in the opening game of the Joe Nuxhall Classic in Oxford, Ohio.
WSU scored a run in the first as Mitch Roman and Ryan Fucci hit back-to-back doubles and then extended the margin to 5-0 with four more in the second. John Brodner knocked in Gabe Snyder with the first run and Roman later delivered the big blow, a double down the left field line with the bases loaded, driving in all three.
Wright State starter Robby Sexton (3-2) was dominant, retiring the first 17 batters he faced before walking Mason DeAnna with two outs in the sixth. He then set down the next two batters until UC collected its only hit of the day, a bunt single by Connor McVey with one out in the seventh.
Sexton bounced back to set down the final two batters he faced, going seven innings altogether with six strikeouts.
Cincinnati used three walks and a double play to produce a run in the eighth and had the leadoff batter reach on another walk in the ninth, but Logan Blair closed out the game by retiring the next three hitters.
The Raiders rounded out the scoring in the bottom of the eighth as Matt Morrow had an infield hit, went to third on a Brodner bunt and a passed ball and scored as Roman grounded to second.
Roman finished with two hits and four RBI to pace the WSU offense while Fucci also had two hits.
Wright State (21-10) will be going for its second straight Nuxhall Classic title on Wednesday as the Raiders face host Miami, who defeated Xavier 3-2 in the second game, at 7:00.
