Box Score The Wright State baseball team scored the first nine runs, including six in the sixth, and went on to an 11-5 win over Toledo Sunday afternoon at Scott Park, claiming the rubber game of the series.
WSU opened the scoring with two runs in the first. JD Orr and Sean Murphy started the game with singles and both moved into scoring position on a Mitch Roman bunt. A Ryan Fucci sacrifice fly plated Orr and Murphy came in on a double by Daniel Arthur.
It stayed that way until the Raiders exploded with six runs in the sixth. After loading the bases on an Arthur single, Gabe Snyder reaching on an error and Brad Macciocchi drawing a walk, walks to Matt Morrow, John Brodner and Orr brought in three runs and another came in as Murphy was hit by a pitch. The final two runs scored as Roman singled to center and advanced to second on an error.
Wright State extended the margin to 9-0 with a run in the seventh on a Zach Weatherford sacrifice fly and tacked on two in the ninth on a Brodner ground out and a Weatherford double.
Freshman Zane Collins (1-1) picked up his first collegiate win by going the first five innings, shutting out the Rockets on four hits while striking out five.
Offensively, Murphy, Arthur and Peyton Burdick each had two hits while Weatherford, and Brodner drove in two.
Wright State (24-11) faces another Mid-American Conference team on Tuesday, April 19, as the Raiders host Bowling Green in a 6:30 contest at Nischwitz Stadium.
