Down 3-1 after an inning in the opener, the Wright State baseball team dominated the rest of the day, outscoring Youngstown State 16-0 in winning a doubleheader Friday in Niles, Ohio, taking the first game 7-3 and the nightcap 10-0.

The Raiders tallied a run in the first inning of the opener as Sean Murphy walked, went to third on a Matt Morrow double and scored on a Mitch Roman grounder, only to see the Penguins take advantage of a pair of WSU errors to score three runs.

Wright State, though, came right back and started on its 16-0 run with three in the top of the second. A Brad Macciocchi hit and walks to JD Orr and John Brodner loaded the bases for Gabe Synder, who singled in two, with the third run scoring on a double play.

The Raiders added two more in the fourth and rounded out the scoring with one in the ninth on a Ryan Fucci sacrifice fly.

After the slow start, Jesse Scholtens (6-1) was in control the rest of the way, holding YSU to three hits over his final 6.2 innings, striking out eight to finish with nine overall. Logan Blair added two more strikeouts over the final 1.1 innings.

At the plate, Macciocchi finished with three hits while Snyder had two hits and two RBI and Murphy and Brodner each scored twice.

In the second game, a Roman bunt single produced a run in the first and WSU added another run in the third on a Daniel Arthur RBI hit and one more in the fifth.

Wright State then broke the game open with seven runs in the seventh, with two runs each coming on a Fucci double, a Brodner single and a Murphy triple.

The game was halted after seven innings due to rain.

Robby Sexton (4-2), the reigning Horizon League Pitcher of the Week, had another strong outing, shutting out Youngstown State on three singles and a walk over six innings with five strikeouts.

Offensively, Roman had three hits and three runs scored, Murphy two hits, two RBI and two runs scored and Fucci and Brodner two RBI each.

Wright State (26-12, 10-3 Horizon) returns to action on Sunday with another Horizon League twinbill, this time at Northern Kentucky starting at noon.
