Volleyball Travels to Milwaukee to Play the Panthers

Wright State volleyball travels to Milwaukee, WI this Sunday, Oct. 15 to take on Milwaukee at 5 p.m.Â

Wright State volleyball is currently 9-11 overall, and 3-4 in the Horizon League after defeating Youngstown State 3-1 this past Wednesday. The Raiders dropped the first set 32-30, but turned around and beat the Penguins in the following three sets to win the match. The Raiders are currently in seventh place in the Horizon League standings. Offensively, freshman outside hitter Abby Barcus led the Raiders in kills against Youngstown State with 13 kills for a .250 hitting percentage. Senior middle hitter Megan Hopkins was right behind Barcus with 12 kills with a solid .321 hitting percentage against the Penguins. Defensively, setter Maddie Lohmeier and Hopkins both recorded four blocks each against Youngstown State. Wright State overall posted 10 blocks in the match against the Penguins. Hopkins is a Horizon League conference individual leader in blocks, and currently is sixth in the league with 79 blocks for an average of 1.04 blocks per set. Wright State's defense continues to be amongst the top in the league as they are currently second in digs with 1,314 digs for an average of 17.29 digs per set.Â

Milwaukee volleyball is currently 8-12 overall, and 1-5 in the Horizon League after playing on the road last weekend at IUPUI and Northern Kentucky. The Panthers lost both matches last weekend, placing them currently in eighth place in the Horizon League standings. Offensively, Milwaukee's top hitter at the net is Sophomore Middle Blocker, Bridget Wallenberger. The middle blocker averages 3.19 kills per set and overall has a solid .302 hitting percentage. Wallenberger also leads her team in blocks with 79 total blocks with an average of 1.10 blocks per set, which places her second in the conference. In the back row defensive specialist, Mykie Olsen, leads the Panthers averaging 3.72 digs per set which places her in tenth place amongst the conference individual leaders for digs. Wright State will take on Milwaukee, whom their overall record against is 16-40, Sunday evening at 5 p.m.
