Wright State Welcomes Northern Kentucky and IUPUI

Wright State volleyball returns home to C.J. McLin Gymnasium this weekend to take on Northern Kentucky on Friday, Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. and IUPUI on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 4 p.m. The Raiders fell earlier this season to Northern Kentucky and IUPUI, both in five-set thrillers in the opening weekend of conference play.Â
Wright State
Â
Wright State volleyball is currently 9-12 overall, and 3-5 in the Horizon League after defeating Youngstown State 3-1 last Wednesday, and falling to Milwaukee in five sets on Sunday. The Raiders dropped the first set 32-30, but turned around and beat the Penguins in the following three sets to win the match. After dropping the first two sets against Milwaukee on Sunday, the Raiders fought back and force a fifth set, but ultimately fell 15-8 in the final set. The Raiders are currently in eighth place in the Horizon League standings.
Offensively, Abby Barcus led the Raiders over the weekend in kills with 27 kills and was instrumental in the 3-1 victory over Youngstown where she recorded a solid .250 hitting percentage. Senior outside hitter Katie Klusman also helped lead the Raiders over the weekend with 27 kills, posting 16 of those kills in the five-set battle against Milwaukee. Klusman is a Horizon League conference individual leader in kills, and currently is sixth in the league with 268 blocks for an average of 3.31 kills per set. Defensively, senior middle blocker Megan Hopkins led the Raiders over the weekend with 14 blocks, posting ten against Milwaukee and four blocks against Youngstown. Against Milwaukee, Hopkins recorded ten blocks of the team's 16 total blocks. Hopkin's ten blocks against Milwaukee is a season high. Hopkins is a Horizon League conference individual leader in blocks, and after this weekend she has moved from sixth in the league to third in the league with 89 blocks for an average of 1.10 blocks per set.Â
Northern Kentucky

Northern Kentucky volleyball is currently 8-9 overall, and 4-4 in the Horizon League after playing on the road last weekend at Cleveland State and Green Bay. The Norse lost both matches last weekend, placing them currently in sixth place in the Horizon League standings. Offensively, Northern Kentucky's top hitter at the net is junior outside hitter, Haley Libs. The outside hitter averages 3.38 kills per set and is fifth in the Horizon League Conference individual leader standings for kills. In the back row freshman defensive specialist, Ashton Terrill, leads the Norse averaging 3.70 digs per set, which places her in tenth place amongst the conference individual leaders for digs. Wright State will take on Northern Kentucky, whom their overall record against is 12-18, Friday evening at 6 p.m.

IUPUI volleyball is currently 10-11 overall, and 6-2 in the Horizon League after playing on the road last week at Oakland and UIC. The Jaguars lost their first match last Wednesday against Oakland in three sets, but turned around and beat UIC in a hard fought, five-set thriller. Last week's split places them currently in second place in the Horizon League standings. Offensively, IUPUI's top hitter at the net is senior right side hitter, Kori Waelbroeck. The senior hitter averages 3.80 kills per set and overall has a .238 hitting percentage. Defensively, the Jaguars have two players that are on the Horizon League Conference individual leader standings for blocks. Junior middle blocker Abby Boatman is fourth in the league with 89 blocks for an average of 1.09 blocks per set, and sophomore middle blocker Haley Hoffman is sixth in the league with 88 blocks for an average of 1.07 blocks per set. In the back row senior defensive specialist, Jessica Helms, leads the Jaguars averaging 4.34 digs per set, which places her in fifth place amongst the conference individual leaders for digs. Wright State will take on IUPUI, whom their overall record against is 5-7, Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
