Volleyball Hits the Road This Weekend Taking on UIC and Green Bay

Wright State volleyball continues conference play on the road this weekend traveling to Chicago, IL to take on UIC on Friday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. eastern, and also traveling to Green Bay, WI to take on Green Bay on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 5 p.m. eastern. The Raiders fell to UIC 3-1 earlier in the season at home, but defeated Green Bay that same weekend in a five-set thriller.Â
Wright State

Wright State volleyball is currently 9-16 overall, and 3-9 in the Horizon League after falling to both Cleveland State and Oakland 3-1 last Friday and Saturday. The Raiders are currently in eighth place in the Horizon League standings. Offensively, senior middle blocker Megan Hopkins led the Raiders over the weekend in kills with 28 kills. Hopkins recorded 16 kills against Cleveland State, almost hitting her season high of 17 kills which she recorded earlier in the season against IUPUI. Hopkins hit a solid .394 hitting percentage against the Vikings in the 3-1 battle. Hopkins is a Horizon League conference individual leader in hitting percentage, and currently is ninth in the league with 245 kills for an overall .283 hitting percentage. Defensively, senior libero Jessie Thornton led the Raiders over the weekend with 33 digs, posting 18 digs against Cleveland State and 15 digs against Oakland. Thornton leads the Horizon League with 489 digs for an average of 4.99 digs per set. Nationally, Thornton ranks 38th in digs on the NCAA women's volleyball individual statistics list.

UIC volleyball is currently 16-9 overall, and 7-5 in the Horizon League after playing at home last weekend against Green Bay and Milwaukee. The Flames won both matches in five sets last weekend, placing them currently in fourth place in the Horizon League standings. Offensively, UIC's top hitter at the net is senior right side hitter, Kyisha Hunt. The right side hitter averages 3.72 kills per set and is third in the Horizon League Conference individual leader standings for kills. Defensively, UIC's junior libero Carla Salvato leads the Flames in the back row averaging 4.32 digs per set which places her in seventh place amongst the conference individual leaders for digs. The Flames redshirt freshman outside hitter, Manuela Conte, is also on the conference individual leaders list for digs averaging 3.80 digs per set which places her in ninth place amongst the conference. Wright State will take on UIC, whom their overall record against is 25-34, Friday evening at 7 p.m. eastern.

Green Bay volleyball is currently 11-12 overall, and 7-5 in the Horizon League after playing on the road last week against UIC and Milwaukee. The Phoenix fell to the UIC Flames in a five-set thriller last Friday, but turned around and swept the Milwaukee Panthers in three sets the next day. Last week's split places them currently in fifth place in the Horizon League standings. Offensively, Green Bay's top hitter at the net is senior middle blocker, Lydia DeWeese. The senior middle blocker averages 3.28 kills per set and is sixth in the Horizon League Conference individual leader standings for kills.  DeWeese also leads the conference with her hitting percentage of .358 so far for the season. Green Bay's freshman setter, Taylor Wolf, is also on the conference individual leader standings for kills with an average of 3.11 kills per set which places her in ninth in the conference. Defensively, Green Bay's top blocker at the net is DeWeese who leads the Phoenix averaging 0.96 blocks per set which places her in tenth place amongst the conference individual leaders for blocks. In the back row junior libero, Vanessa Buman, leads the Phoenix averaging 4.49 digs per set which places her fourth amongst the conference individual leaders for digs. Wright State will take on Green Bay, whom their overall record against is 30-27, Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m. eastern.
