Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Thomas Nugent

@WSUWBasketball Cruises to Victory over Kentucky State Thursday

The Raiders returned home riding a six game win streak and coming off of their second tournament win of the young season. Prior to the game Mackenzie Taylor was recognized as the 21st member of the Raiders 1000 Point Club. The Raiders moved to 8-3 on the season with an 83-53 win against the Kentucky State Thorobreds.

The depth of the Raiders proved to be too much for the Thorobreds. The bench accounted for 40 of the 83 points, in large part due to the shooting performance of freshman Anisja Harris. Harris hit and astonishing eight of her eleven shots from beyond the arc, contributing 24 points on the day. Two additional Raiders scored in double-digits with Michal Miller adding 18 points, 12 of which came from deep, and Mackenzie Taylor added another 10 points.

First Quarter
The Raiders began the game in a full-court press and a strong transition game helped established the lead that they would build. Wright State did a majority of their work in the paint but could not seem to miss their shots from range. Anisja Harris hit three threes midway through the quarter and Mackenzie Taylor added another for the home team. A later quarter surge from the Thorobreds kept them within striking distance, 25-16.

With her shooting from deep, Harris led the way in the first quarter with nine points.

Second Quarter
Picking up where she left of in the first, Harris hit three consecutive three-pointers early in the second to bring her game total to 18 points. The defense continued to stifle the Thorobreds in transition, allowing only 10 points while coming away with five turnovers and three steals.

Anisja Harris ended the second quarter with nine points to build on the lead against Kentucky State. Angel Baker added another four points and three assists.

Third Quarter
Michal Miller started off the scoring in the quarter with an impressive slice to the basket between defenders rolling the shot off of her fingertips, then following it up with a three-pointer on the next possession. Anisja Harris added one more three-pointer, bringing her total to seven. The suffocating Raider defense held the Thorobreds to 12 points in the quarter and only allowed a 30.8 shooting percentage from the floor.

Fourth Quarter
Leading the way once again, Michal Miller started off the quarter with a three-pointer to extend the Raider lead to 31 points. Anisja Harris added to her total when she hit another shot from range, bringing her total to 24 points for the game.

  • The Raiders held Brooke Wallace, KSU's leading scorer, to only four points, all which came from the free-throw line
