@WSUBaseball Splits at UIC

The Wright State baseball team split a doubleheader at defending Horizon League Champion UIC Saturday afternoon, losing the opener 2-1 and winning game two 7-1.

In game one, Zane Harris went three-for-four with a double as Gabe Snyder accounted for the Raiders' only run on his sixth homerun in the last nine games in the fourth inning.  Chase Slone also picked a three-for-four day.  Peyton Burdick collected the other hit for the Raiders.

Starter Ryan Weiss took the loss as he gave up two earned runs with five strikeouts in 6.1 innings.  Jeremy Randolph finished the game on the mound for the Raiders with a strikeout in 1.2 innings.

In game two, Burdick had two doubles and Quincy Hamilton homered in the second.  JD Orr and Harris added two hits each as Snyder, Alex Alders and Slone had singles.  Harris had three RBI.

Daniel Kreuzer posted his fifth win of the season, pitching seven innings.  Jason Foster and Derek Hendrixson pitched the eighth and ninth innings.

"We were terrific on the mound all day today, very proud of our staff," WSU head coach Jeff Mercer said.  "We had good at bats all day against another strong UIC pitching staff.  In the first game, we had our opportunities to push runs across and weren't able to execute a bunt or get a two-out hit. You don't get do overs against great pitchers.  In the second game, we broke through with the middle of our line up producing as we expected."

The Raiders, 17-11 and 7-4, will play the series finale at UIC Sunday at 1 pm.
