The Wright State baseball team will be in action this weekend that will feature the first-place Raiders against the second-place UIC Flames. WSU and UIC will square off Friday night at 6 pm (note time change), Saturday at 2 pm and Sunday at 1 pm.
The Raiders, 29-13 and 16-5, have won five straight and 11 of their last 12 games. Gabe Snyder, who just became the school's all-time home run leader, is hitting .352 with 14 round trippers and 57 RBI while Peyton Burdick holds a .363 batting average with 15 doubles and 47 RBI. JD Orr, who is hitting .320, has 25 stolen bases and Alex Alders is at .310. Ryan Weiss has seven wins on the mound with an ERA of 3.93, including 62 strikeouts in 68.2 innings. Derek Hendrixson picked up his first win as a starter last weekend but has posted eight saves.
UIC FLAMES
The Flames, 24-14 and 11-7, have won four straight and eight of the last nine games. Scott Ota leads the way with 27 RBI and four RBI, hitting .309 as Bowen Ogata is hitting .295 and Dominic Smith has 25 RBI. Starting pitcher Ryan Campbell has six wins and an ERA 1.65. Charlie Cerny has an ERA of 0.70 in 18 appearances, and closer Alex Padilla has six saves. UIC leads the Horizon League in pitching with a 2.89 ERA; Wright State is second at 3.94. Offensively, the Raiders lead the league at .297 and UIC is third, hitting .269.
The Raiders lead the overall series 79-62 after WSU won two of three games at UIC April 7-8.
SPECIAL SUNDAY
Sunday is Strikeout Type-1 Diabetes Awareness Day with the Raiders. A "50/50" raffle will be held with the benefits going to a charitable organization dedicated to fighting Type-1 Diabetes.
NEXT UP
The Raiders will play at Louisville Tuesday night before traveling to Milwaukee for three games next weekend.
