@WSUWBasketball Drops First Horizon League Contest

On Friday night the Wright State women's basketball team hit the road to take on the Horizon League's number one defense in Youngstown State. The Raiders felt the strength of the Penguins' stifling defense and fell by a score of 68-83. The Raiders move to 13-5 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
 
Angel Baker led the Raiders on offense converting 12 of her 20 shots for 27 points. Michal Miller added 17, nine of which came from three-point range. Imani Partlow led all players with 12 rebounds.
 
1st Quarter
Tyler Frierson started off scoring for the Raiders by grabbing an offensive rebound and then 21 seconds later getting the feed underneath the basket and dropping a layup. After two free throw points by Mackenzie Taylor at the 7:47 mark the Raiders would go scoreless over the next 5:34 and the Penguins would build their lead to seven points over that time. Tyler Frierson would make the next points for the Raiders and one minute later Angel Baker would also get a jumper to drop. In the last 41 seconds the Raiders would add another five points from a Michal Miller jumper and then an Angel Baker three-pointer. The quick flurry would put the Raiders behind 15-13 of the Penguins.
 
2nd Quarter
In the first minute of the quarter Wright State would grab the lead back from Youngstown State with a Mackenzie Taylor three-pointer. The lead would not last long though as the Raiders would once again go cold for an extended period of time. Over a 4:17 period the Penguins would put in 12 straight points to build their lead to 29-18. Mackenzie Taylor and Angel Baker broke the Raiders' dry spell and pulled the score back within seven. Angel Baker would add another four points at the end of the quarter but the Raiders would remain behind by a score of 35-26 entering halftime.
 
3rd Quarter
Tyler Frierson began the scoring for the Raiders in to open the second half, putting in two layups. Youngstown State then went on an eight point run against Wright State, which was only broken thanks to a Mackenzie Taylor free throw at the 6:45 mark of the quarter. Thirty-one seconds later Angel Baker would hit a short jumper and then on the following possession get a layup to drop. Emily Vogelpohl would find the net on a jumper but the Raiders still found themselves behind by 18 points. At 2:05 remaining in the quarter Michal Miller would hit a jumper. On the last Raider possession Angel Baker would also get a jumper to drop. With time expiring in the quarter the Penguins would hit a shot from behind the arc and extend their lead to 19 points.
 
4th Quarter
Michal Miller began the comeback bid for the Raiders in the quarter with a three-point shot. One minute later Miller would hit two foul shots but the Raiders still found themselves behind by 16 points. Miller would also hit a three-pointer to cut the Penguins' lead to 14 but the Youngstown State would immediately answer and put in a three of their own on the next possession. After the media timeout Jalise Beck kicked off the scoring for the Raiders and pulled them within 15 of the Penguins. After a Penguin turnover Angel Baker would add another two. 1:13 seconds later Michal Miller would add another three-pointer. With under two minutes in the game the Raiders and Penguins would trade points the comeback bid would come to an end.
