@WSU_WBasketball Rebounds against Norse on Pink Day

On Saturday afternoon, the Wright State women's basketball team rebounded against the Northern Kentucky Norse, winning 78-56 at WSU's Nutter Center. The win moved the Raiders to 20-6 overall and 11-2 in the Horizon League.  It marks the sixth straight season that the Raiders have won at least 20 games.
 
Mackenzie Taylor led all players with 17 points, shooting 3-7 from the floor and 4-5 from the foul line. Symone Simmons added 10 points in addition to her six rebounds. Dasia Evans and Tyler Frierson tied a game-high with eight rebounds each.
 
1st Quarter
After winning the tipoff, Tyler Frierson was the first Raider on the boards and also followed it up with two more points on the next possession. Emily Vogelpohl extended the Raiders' lead with a three-pointer from the corner. Vogelpohl came up the with next play after stepping in front of a pass and taking the ball down the other end to finish the play with a layup. After a missed three, Imani Partlow collected the offensive rebound and sunk her turnaround jumper to give the Raiders a 13-5 lead. Emily Vogelpohl added to her game total with a fall away jumper. Just before the media timeout the Norse were able to put in a score to make it a 15-9 game. The next Raider score would come from Imani Partlow who would sink a two. With a quick transition offense, Jalise Beck was able to drive to the basket for two and also draw a foul on the play, which she would convert from the line. Beck's score would give the Raiders a double-digit lead over the Norse. Symone Simmons would add to the lead after sinking a three from the corner to make the score 23-9. A suffocating transition defense would give the ball back to the Raiders on a turnover and Mackenzie Taylor would sink a three-pointer. Taylor would also add one point after receiving a foul during the shot. Northern Kentucky's Ally Niece would add a three late in the quarter, Niece accounted for 10 of the 14 points for the Norse during the first quarter.
 
2nd Quarter
Symone Simmons came up with the first play of the quarter after collecting an offensive rebound then dishing to Michal Miller who sank the deep jumper. After a foul on her shot, Mackenzie Taylor would be sent to the line where she would convert both of her shots. On the next possession, Tyler Frierson would add two points on a turnaround jumper in the lane. With an impressive passing performance, Angel Baker would find a cutting Emily Vogelpohl who then dished it back to Baker for two points. The Raiders would next get points from Dasia Evans after the defense forced a shot clock violation against the Norse. It would not be until the 5:08 mark that Northern Kentucky would finally get points on the board in the second quarter. From the line, Dasia Evans would tally two more points and extend the Raiders' lead to 28 points over the Norse. With 1:42 remaining on the clock and the Norse on a short run, Tyler Frierson would come up with a dominating block under the Raiders' basket to take the momentum away from the Norse.
 
3rd Quarter
The Norse were the first team on the boards in the second half with a layup from Taylor Clos. Mackenzie Taylor was the first Raider on the boards after finding the net from three-point range with the feed coming from Emily Vogelpohl. After a line change, Anisja Harris was able to make a three to make the score 52-30. Northern Kentucky would answer though with a three-pointer of their own on the next possession. After a short string of Norse scoring, Dasia Evans would come up with the next play for the Raiders, swatting the ball to the Angel Baker who would then feed it back to Dasia Evans for two points. On a shooting dryspell, the Raiders got their next points via an uncontested three from Mackenzie Taylor. On the next Norse possession Symone Simmons was able to step infront of a pass and head down the other end with the ball. Drawing a foul on the layup, Simmons was able to add an extra point to the play. The next Raider points would all come from the foul line with Anisja Harris putting in two and Teneshia Dixon adding three.  
 
4th Quarter
Angel Baker opened up scoring for the Raiders in the fourth with a fingertip layup in transition. On the next possession, Jalise Beck would add two more points to her game total. From the foul line, Dasia Evans would convert two points and make the Raiders' lead 28 over the Norse. Norse player Taylor Clos would put in a three-pointer then add another two before the Northern Kentucky called a timeout at the 4:30 mark of the quarter. After the media timeout, Angel Baker was able to find Tyler Frierson under the basket where Frierson was able to get the layup to drop. On the next possession, Anisja Harris added two more points in transition. After a three from the Norse, Teneshia Dixon would put in a jumper.

Up Next
The Raiders will remain at home next weekend when they take on Cleveland State on Friday night at 7:00 PM and then will be looking for revenge against Youngstown State on Sunday at 2:00 PM in the Nutter Center.
