@WSU_WBasketball Wins On Senior Day Against Penguins

The Wright State women's basketball team won against the Youngstown State Penguins by a score of 70-65. The win moves the Raiders' record to 22-6 and 14-2 in the Horizon League.

The Raiders are currently in first place, looking for their second regular-season title in the last three years after tying Green Bay for that distinction in 2016-17. 

After the game Symone Simmons, Emily Vogelpohl, Imani Partlow, and Mackenzie Taylor were honored at mid-court for Senior Day with framed pictures and plaques presented by Director of Athletics Bob Grant. The senior class has won 94 games.  Last year's class, with Lexi Smith as the lone four-year senior, won 97 games as the most wins by a senior class.

Wright State Head Coach Katrina Merriweather said "The succes of the Raiders doesn't happen without these seniors who show up to practice everyday and push their teammates. These four will hold a special place with me". 
 
Emily Vogelpohl led the Raiders in scoring 20 points while also adding four rebounds and two steals. Angel Baker added 14 points while shooting 7/9 from the field. Symone Simmons pulled in a career-high 21 rebounds and added 10 points. Mackenzie Taylor tallied 10 points and went a vital 5/6 from the line.
 
1st Quarter
Michal Miller opened up the scoring for the Raiders with a long distance floater in the lane. Two possessions later Tyler Frierson added two points off of screen pass from Emily Vogelpohl. The first Penguins' points came from the line after drawing a foul in the lane. Coming off the bench, Angel Baker solidified the Raiders' scoring with two and Imani Partlow added one more from the foul line. Angel Baker broke a short scoring drought with a long jumper to make the score 9-6 with 4:20 remaining on the clock. Out of the timeout the Penguins were able to get a hook to drop to pull within one point of the Raiders. One possession later the Penguins were able to take the lead with a floater to make the score 9-10. From the top of the key Angel Baker was able to take the lead back from Youngstown State but the Penguins were able to grab it back after a foul on the other end. Symone Simmons was able to collect an offensive rebound for the putback to give the Raiders the lead. After crossing over her defender, Emily Vogelpohl was able to extend the lead with a long jumper to make the score 15-12 to end the quarter.
 
2nd Quarter
On three consecutive possessions, Emily Vogelpohl put on a show sinking three long distance shots. Two possessions later, Vogelpohl would slice through Penguins' defense for an additional two on a floater in the lane. Michal Miller would join in on the show with a layup to make the score 25-19. With an offensive rebound, Symone Simmons was the next Raider to score with a layup. Emily Vogelpohl continued her electric performance with a jumper that would trigger a Penguin timeout from the bench. Out of the timeout Angel Baker would put in two and then the Raiders would get the ball back on the other end after a travel. Collecting a rebound, Symone Simmons would be on the spot for the Raiders with a layup to extend the lead to 13 points. Teneshia Dixon would join in on the scoring after coming up with a rebound under the basket and putting it in for two. The Raider defense turned up the heat in the last possession of the game coming up with four deflections and pinning the Penguins back against the sidelines, unable to score.  
 
3rd Quarter
With an across court pass, Michal Miller dished the ball to lone Emily Vogelpohl who would bury her three-point attempt from the corner. The Penguins would answer though with a three-pointer of their own. After a crucial block from Tyler Frierson, Angel Baker would take the ball to the other end before pulling up for a long jumper to extend the Raiders' lead to 43-29. Over the next 2:02 the Penguins would put in six consecutive points to pull back within eight points of the Raiders. Coming out of the media timeout Angel Baker would tally her 14th point of the game but the Penguins would convert a shot from the behind the arc on the other end. From the foul line, Symone Simmons would convert three of four shots on two consecutive fouls against her. The points would give the Raiders back a double-digit lead against the Penguins. Backing down her defender, Imani Partlow would add two points with a layup. Youngstown State would hit back on the next possession, sinking a long three. After a missed jumper, the Penguins would add four more to pull back within five points of the home team.
 
4th Quarter
With a foul the Penguins would pull within three but only for a second as Emily Vogelpohl would a long two. Slicing through the defense and receiving a foul, Mackenzie Taylor would add two from the line and extend the Raiders' lead to seven. After sinking a three-pointer the Penguins were able to pull within two but Mackenzie Taylor would hit a three from the corner on the other end for the Raiders. Taking the ball from end to end, Emily Vogelpohl showed off her handles and ended with a layup to tally her twentieth point. On two consecutive possessions Teneshia Dixon would be sent to the foul line where she would convert three points for the Raiders. Looking at an eight point deficit the Penguins would turn up their transition game. Getting points under the basket, Youngstown State would pull within four of Wright State. From the line, Symone Simmons would add one point. Dialing up a play during a timeout, the Raiders were able to get a shot for Mackenzie Taylor. Taylor would drive to the basket and sink her floater off the glass to make the score 68-63 with 14.4 on the game clock. With 11.9 on the clock, the Penguins would send Mackenzie Taylor to the line where she would convert both of her shots.

The Raiders will hit the road for their last two regular-season games of the year before the Horizon League Tournament starts.
