On Saturday afternoon, the Wright State women's basketball team fell at Green Bay by a score of 37-56. With the loss the Raiders move to 19-6 overall and 11-2 in the Horizon League.
Emily Vogelpohl led the Raiders in scoring with seven points.
Symone Simmons led the team in rebounds, hauling in 11. Phoenix Frankie Wurtz led all players with 13 points and came away with 4 steals.
1st Quarter
The Raiders were first on the board after a rebound and fastbreak by
Emily Vogelpohl led to two points. The next five minutes of the game would be a back and forth battle between the two teams with each having an answer for each score. During the stretch,
Symone Simmons and
Mackenzie Taylor would each get a layup and
Emily Vogelpohl would convert two shots from the line after drawing a foul. The score would stand at 8-7 in favor of the Raiders going into the media timeout. Coming out of the timeout, the Phoenix's Frankie Wurtz would hit a three-pointer to take a two point lead. Drawing a foul in the paint,
Imani Partlow would even the score with two points from the foul line. Partlow would come up with the next big Raider play with a steal. Later in the possession, Partlow would receive the ball back and turn it into two points. After losing the lead for a short time,
Angel Baker would tie the game back up 14-14 with a layup. With under one minute remaining in the quarter,
Emily Vogelpohl would force a steal and
Angel Baker would get the feed on the other end for a two point Raider lead.
2nd Quarter
The first 2:30 of the quarter would be marred by turnovers on both teams before
Dasia Evans broke the scoring drought. After drawing a foul, Evans would convert one from the line to give the Raiders a three point lead.
Michal Miller would add two points via a jumper 43 seconds later to extend the lead.
Mackenzie Taylor would add two points from the foul line but Green Bay would answer on the next possession with a layup in the paint and an extra point on a shooting foul. Green Bay would tie the game 21-21 after a fastbreak from Carly Mohns. After another steal from
Mackenzie Taylor, Taylor would add one point after receiving a foul on the turnover. The foul shot from Taylor would give the Raiders a 22-21 lead heading into halftime.
3rd Quarter
The Phoenix were the first team on the board with a two from Carly Mohns. Over the next minute the Phoenix would pile on an additional four points to pull ahead 27-22. Green Bay would extend their lead to seven before
Angel Baker broke the scoring streak with a jumper.
Dasia Evans would score the next points for the Raiders, but Phoenix Frankie Wurtz would hit another three to extend the lead to eight over Wright State. Down by ten points with 2:36 remaining in the third, the Raiders' bench would call a timeout. Coming out of the timeout, the Phoenix would receive a foul and add two more points to their total from the line.
Tyler Frierson would hit a jumper in the Raiders' attempt to comeback against the Phoenix. After a steal and a drive to the basket, Green Bay's Frankie Wurtz would add two with time expiring in the quarter. Wurtz's score would put the Phoenix up 42-28 entering the last quarter.
4th Quarter
Green Bay would add to their total to begin the quarter with a layup and a three-pointer.
Michal Miller would be the Raider to break the scoring dryspell with a layup in the paint off of a fastbreak which was started by an
Angel Baker steal. After five more Green Bay points,
Symone Simmons would get on the boards with a jumper in the paint.
Emily Vogelpohl would follow that up with a jumper of her own but Green Bay would match the score on the next possession. After a Wright State timeout,
Teneshia Dixon would add convert two shots from the foul line. The scores from Dixon would be the last for the Raiders in the game.
