After dropping Friday's matchup against the UIC Flames 1-6 on Friday, Wright State (15-6) stormed back with two big wins on Saturday to claim their second Horizon League series win. The Raiders have now won four of their last five games and 11 of their last 13. Their 4-2 conference record is tied for first in the Horizon League with the UIC squad. Wright State will return to Nischwitz Stadium for a home and home series against the Xavier Musketeers on Tuesday.
Game 1
2nd Inning
UIC jumped on Raider starter
Zane Collins with three straight hits. Collins settled down and retired the next three batters but not before the Flames put up two runs in the opening frame. Wright State responded with a huge four-run second.
Seth Gray began the inning with a double and scored on a
Quincy Hamilton single. After
Tyler Black reached base after a UIC error,
Damon Dues,
Chase Slone, and Connor Giltrow produced three straight RBI for the Raiders who grabbed a 4-2 lead.
3rd Inning
Seth Gray added the fifth Raider by virtue of a home run to left, his second of the year.
8th Inning
Zane Collins settled in on the mound for the Raiders and threw seven straight scoreless innings totaling eight strikeouts. Wright State used another big inning to clinch the victory.
Peyton Burdick,
Seth Gray, and
Zach Weatherford all reached base to open a five-run frame.
Quincy Hamilton accounted for three of those runs on a bases-clearing triple.
Tyler Black singled allowing Hamilton to score. Later in the inning,
Damon Dues worked an eight-pitch walk and stole second, where a
Chase Slone single extended the Raider lead to 10-2.
9th Inning
UIC added a run, but
Tyler Luneke entered and quickly put an end to any comeback attempt by the Flames.
Game 2
1st Inning
JD Orr recorded the first hit of the game and advanced to third after
Peyton Burdick followed with a single. Orr crossed home after a wild pitch from UIC starter Patrick Martin.
Bradley Brehmer got the start for the Raiders on the bump and recorded a career-high six innings in his second win of the year.
3rd Inning
Once again, Wright State used a five-run inning to open up a huge lead.
Justin McConnell and
JD Orr both landed on first and second and stole second and third.
Peyton Burdick singled to score both runners.
Seth Gray and
Zach Weatherford then reached and
Alex Alders added to the Raider lead with an RBI single.
Chase Slone wrapped up the scoring with yet another RBI single which scored two more.
5th Inning
Chase Slone contributed one more RBI in the fifth inning to add an insurance run for the Raiders. After Brehmer exited after the sixth,
Tristan Haught entered on the mound and dominated the UIC lineup the next three innings allowing just one hit and no runs.
