Offense Dominates in @WSUBaseball Victory

Wright State (18-8) cruised to a series win on Sunday with an impressive 18-run performance. The Raiders tallied 18 hits total against the Penguins of Youngstown State and rebounded from a 10-8 defeat on Saturday. With the victory, Wright State improves to 6-3 in the Horizon League and 10-3 from Nischwitz Stadium.

1st Inning
Youngstown State threatened to score first in the opening inning by loading the bases with one out. Starter Bradley Brehmer battled back and recorded two timely strikeouts to escape the inning. On the other side, Wright State successfully scored a run in each of the first seven innings. The scoring began with a JD Orr double and a Peyton Burdick triple. Burdick darted home on a wild pitch and the Raiders jumped out to a two run lead.

2nd Inning
After allowing a lead-off single, Bradley Brehmer retired three straight Penguin batters and put the Raider offense back on the field. Wright State repeated the result of the first inning with two more scores in the second. Cameron Rountree reached base, stole second, and scored the third run after a Damon Dues single to right. JD Orr followed by putting down a bunt and beating out the throw for a base hit. His speed caused problems for Youngstown State, and a balk with Orr on the bases allowed Dues to cross the plate.

4th Inning
Zach Weatherford doubled in the third and scored on a wild pitch to increase the Raider lead to 5-0. Youngstown State put a dent in the lead with a two-run fourth, but was quickly outmatched by the Wright State bats in the home half of the frame. The Raiders sent 12 batters to the plate and scored seven runs in the inning. Chase Slone connected on his third home run of the year to begin the offensive explosion. Cameron Rountree sent a single to left field and Damon Dues and JD Orr drew walks to load the bases with no outs. Peyton Burdick then stepped in the box and delivered a double to center field scoring two runs. After Seth Gray got plunked and Zach Weatherford reached on a fielder's choice, Tyler Black tripled to bring in two more runners. Chase Slone added his second hit and RBI of the inning with a single to conclude the huge inning for Wright State. When the dust settled, the Raiders held a 12-2 advantage after the fourth.

5th Inning
Youngstown State responded with a five-run fifth which forced Brehmer out of the game. Wright State kept the offense rolling in the bottom half with three more runs. JD Orr and Peyton Burdick recorded base hits and advanced into scoring position with no outs. Zach Weatherford scored Orr and an error brought Burdick home. Quincy Hamilton put a ball in play to allow Weatherford to cross the plate for the 15th Raider run.

7th Inning
Wright State wrapped up the scoring with an unconventional inside-the-park homer by Tyler Black. Mitch Gremling, Jake Schrand, Wes Earles, and Jorge Lozano all saw action on the mound and closed the final 3.1 innings without allowing a run. Brehmer picked up the win and extended his record to a perfect 3-0 on the year.

The Raiders return to Nischwitz Stadium on Tuesday for a single-game non-conference matchup against Wofford.
