@WSU_WBasketball Beats Oakland; Advances to League Semifinals

The Raiders will face IUPUI Monday in Detroit

On Tuesday night, the No. 1 seeded Wright State women's basketball team took care of the No. 8 seeded Oakland Grizzlies in the Horizon League quarterfinals by a score of 83-60. The win moves the Raiders to 25-6 overall and 17-2 in the Horizon League. The win also completes the Raiders' perfect conference slate at home this season, where they went 12-0 this season against Horizon League opponents. Wright State will advance to the conference semifinals where they will face No. 4 IUPUI on Monday, March 11th in Detroit.
 
Michal Miller led the Raiders on offense with 22 points, 14 of which came in the first half. Mackenzie Taylor tallied 16 points. Emily Vogelpohl added 10 points while also dishing out six assists and pulling in eight rebounds. Symone Simmons pulled in eight rebounds and added nine points in the Raiders' effort. 
 
1st Quarter
Picking up an offensive rebound, Michal Miller was the first Raider on the boards with a jumper high of the glass. The Grizzlies would put in the next five points after the Raiders missed on three consecutive possessions. Pulling up early in transition, Emily Vogelpohl got her long jumper to fall. The Raiders were able to grab the lead back after a turnover turned into two points from Angel Baker. Baker would also get the next two points after getting the dish from Jalise Beck. Going into the media timeout the Raiders would lead 8-5 in part due to a six-point run. Jalise Beck would next feed the ball to Dasia Evans from an inbound pass and Evens would put it in for two off the glass. With 2:40 remaining in the quarter, the Grizzlies would pull the score even with the Raiders at 10-10. Michal Miller would give the Raiders the lead back after converting two shots from the foul line. After a tie at 14 points, Teneshia Dixon would gain the lead back for the Raiders but it would be short lived due to a long two from the Grizzlies. Gaining the ball back with the shot clock off, Michal Miller would put in a jumper to end the quarter at 16-14.
 
2nd Quarter
Moving fast in transition, Mackenzie Taylor to the ball from end to end where she would dish the ball to Emily Vogelpohl to extend the Raiders' lead. Oakland would answer though after finding a shooter alone in the corner for three. After deflecting a pass in transition, the ball would find Mackenzie Taylor at the top of the key where she would sink a three-pointer to make the score 23-17 with 7:10 remaining in the half. The next points for the Raiders would come from Imani Partlow who would convert two foul shots. Halfway through the quarter, Emily Vogelpohl would find a cutting Symone Simmons who would put in a short floater in the lane. Moving quickly in transition, Michal Miller would give the ball to Angel Baker who would give it right back to Miller for a deep three-pointer. One possession later, Miller would again connect from deep and Dasia Evans would join in on the scoring to make the score 35-18. The 10-0 Raider run over a 3:11 span would trigger a timeout from the Grizzlies' bench. Oakland's Taylor Jones would break the streak with a three-pointer, one possession later Jones would find two more points in a solo transition performance. Jones would later add two from the foul line to make the score 35-25. Mackenzie Taylor would break the Grizzlies' run with a layup and the final score of the half.
 
3rd Quarter
Multiple traveling violations and offensive rebounds by the Grizzlies would force the Raiders' bench to call a timeout early in the third quarter. Tyler Frierson would break the Raiders' dry spell after collecting an offensive rebound then laying it in for the put back. From the line, the Grizzlies were able to pull back within single-digits of the Raiders. A turnaround jumper by Dasia Evans would make the score 41-30. Oakland would go on a 6-2 run and put the Raiders' lead in jeopardy with 4:40 remaining in the quarter. Drawing a penalty on her shot, Emily Vogelpohl would compete the three-point play to make the score 46-38. The Grizzlies and Raiders would then trade three-pointer over the next two possessions. Mackenzie Taylor would score the next points for the Raiders after receiving the feed from Emily Vogelpohl. After a passing performance from the Raiders, Mackenzie Taylor would drive the ball to basket for two and would also add one from the line after drawing a foul on the play. Adding to the scoring burst, Tyler Frierson would collect an offensive rebound and put it back in for two. In the last minute of the quarter Mackenzie Taylor would add two and Symone Simmons would add five, including a three from the corner. The surge of scoring to end the quarter would make the score 64-44 in favor of the home team.
 
4th Quarter
Emily Vogelpohl opened up scoring in the quarter with a fallback jumper from deep. Coming up with an offensive rebound, Michal Miller would extend the Raiders' lead to 24 points after a layup. Oakland would go on a five point run before the Raiders scored again, Mackenzie Taylor and Angel Baker would each convert points from the line for Wright State. Symone Simmons would make the Raiders' lead 22 points after a layup. After driving down the line and drawing a foul, Jalise Beck would add two from the line. Moving quickly in transition, Angel Baker would feed the ball to a lone Anisja Harris who would sink it for a deep three-pointer to make the score 78-53. Mackenzie Taylor would break a Raiders' short scoring drought from the line, converting two shots. With time expiring on the shot clock, Michal Miller would sink a deep three from the top of the key to put the Raiders' up by 25 points.
