Baseball Grabs Road Win Over Dayton Wednesday

Dayton, Ohio – The Wright State baseball team was back in action Wednesday after a comeback victory over Bowling Green on Tuesday night at Nischwitz Stadium, as they traveled to the University of Dayton to take on the Flyers in a mid-week non-conference matchup. In a back and forth affair, the Raiders were able to cement their lead late in the game, and went on to win their second consecutive game, beating UD 8-7. "That was a wild game," commented head coach Alex Sogard. "I thought we played really well on both sides of the ball. Sam Wirsing didn't have his best stuff out there but he competed and gave us a chance to stay in the game. Offensively I think we had four two-out RBI's so that was the difference maker in the game being able to take advantage of those opportunities. We made it pretty interesting in the 9th as the first 5 guys reached base without an out, but Jake Schrand was incredible getting a fly out and two strikeouts to strand the tying run at 3rd. It's always great to get a win but especially to continue our winning tradition against our cross town rival."
The Raiders will host a crucial Horizon League weekend against the first place UIC Flames starting Friday.

SCORING
1st Inning – The Raiders jumped out to an early advantage in Wednesday's contest, as Damon Dues continued his hot hitting with an RBI single, and Zach Weatherford brought Dues around to score with an RBI double to put Wright State on top by two runs before the Flyers got to swing the bat.
3rd Inning – After the Flyers answered with four runs in the bottom of the second inning, the Raiders answered right back with four of their own on a three-run home run from Seth Gray, and an RBI single from Chase Slone to re-establish a two-run advantage at 6-4.
7th Inning – An Alex Alders RBI double brought the Wright State advantage back to two runs following a a Dayton sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.
8th Inning -  Damon Dues cemented the win for the Raiders with his second RBI single of the game, bringing the score to 8-5.
9th Inning - The Flyers added two runs, but fell just one run short and left the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth.

The Raiders (29-13) will return home to Nischwitz Stadium this weekend for an important Horizon League series against the league-leading UIC Flames. Wright State currently sits a half game behind the Flames, and the series this weekend carries major implications on the rest of the season for both teams. First pitch on Friday is set for 6:00 PM, so make sure to join us all weekend for this big series.
