Fairborn, Ohio – The Wright State baseball team (29-13, 11-7 Horizon League, 2nd place) begins a crucial three-game series against the UIC Flames (18-16, 11-6 Horizon League, 1st place) on Friday at Nischwitz Stadium. First pitch Friday is set for 6:00 PM, and the stakes could not be higher for the green and gold, who trail the Flames by just a half game in the Horizon League standings. Saturday and Sunday will start at 1:00 PM.
In the first series of the season between the Flames and the Raiders, Wright State was able to take two of three from UIC after dropping the first game of the series late in March in Chicago. The Raiders come into Friday's game on a two-game winning streak after wins over Bowling Green and Dayton on Tuesday and Wednesday. Wright State dropped two of three in their Horizon League series last weekend on the road against Milwaukee. The Raiders have been led all season by an incredibly potent offensive attack, which ranks first in the league in every major category. The pitching staff has been dominant as well, ranking only behind UIC in ERA, runs, and earned runs. The Raiders rotation will go with a familiar look this weekend, with Bear Bellomy starting Friday, Zane Collins on Saturday, and Bradley Brehmer on Sunday.
Scott Ota has had a monster season at the plate for UIC (.365 BA, 14 HR, 45 RBI), leading the Flames surge to first place in the Horizon League standings. The pitching staff has cemented itself as the stingiest in the league, boasting a 3.45 earned run average, and a measly opponent's batting average of .250. Wright State may be seeing the Flames at the right time of the season, however, as UIC will be coming to Fairborn losers of three of their last four games, including dropping two of three against fourth-place Oakland last weekend in Chicago.
Saturday's 1:00 PM first pitch has been deemed Family Day, and all kids will be admitted free of charge! The weather looks favorable for the majority of the weekend, so come out and support your Raiders at Nischwitz this weekend!
