
Wright State opens Horizon League schedule at Detroit Mercy

The Wright State women's basketball team begins Horizon League play this weekend with a pair of games on the road against Detroit Mercy. The Raiders and Titans will square off on Saturday and Sunday, with both games set for 2 p.m. tipoffs.
Fans can watch both games on ESPN+ or follow the live stats each day.

The Raiders battled against No. 24 Michigan on the road, but the Wolverines shot nearly 50 percent from the floor to hand the Raiders an 82-59 loss on Sunday, December 6, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Angel Baker recorded her second consecutive double-figure scoring game to start the season, scoring 15 points while she added five rebounds and a team-leading three steals. Junior Tyler Frierson added nine points of her own, while junior newcomer Jada Wright saw her first action as a Raider, finishing with four points and a block.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
- Detroit Mercy is 0-4 this season, with home losses to Xavier and Indiana State, along with a pair of road defeats against Michigan State and Toledo.
- The Titans bring back nearly 90-percent of their scoring in 2020-21 with 1,517 of 1,729 total points returning from last season. Sophomore guard Sylare Starks led Detroit Mercy in scoring at 10.1 points per game and 302 total points last season, while junior forward Maxine Moore, sophomore guard Markyia McCormick and sophomore forward Bridgid Fox were also above the 200-point plateau in 2019-20.
- Detroit Mercy was picked to finished 10th in the Horizon League Women's Basketball Preseason Poll, tallying 38 first place points. The Titans were 3-27 overall in 2019-20 (3-15 in Horizon League play), with two of their victories coming at home.
