LAST TIME OUT
Wright State used some extra inning magic improve to 2-0 in midweek action on the young season with an 8-6 victory in 14 innings at Miami (OH) on Tuesday night. The 14 innings were the most a Raider team has played since March 26, 2005, when they also played 14 innings against Akron at Nischwitz Stadium, also a Wright State win (7-4). In the top of the 14th, Wright State saw Zane Harris reach when he was hit by a pitch with one out and advanced on Daniel Merlano's single. The bases were loaded up after Konner Piotto's single to set up Greenwell. The freshman gave the Raiders the lead when he was hit by a pitch, and Alders followed up moments later by drawing a walk on a 3-2 pitch to extend the advantage to 8-6.
Tristan Haught became the ninth and final pitcher of the night for Wright State, as he came on in the bottom of the 14th and forced Miami into a groundout to open the inning. After a one out single, Haught got a strikeout for the second out of the frame before wrapping up the save with a groundout to close the night.
PLAYING TOUGH
Seven of Wright State's 11 games this season have been against nationally ranked opponents – then-No. 6 Mississippi State in a three-game series to open the season, then-No. 1 Louisville in midweek action and then-No. 20 Auburn in a weekend series. The Raiders will add three more games against ranked opponents when they take on Tennessee this weekend.
ROAD TRIP
Wright State is beginning the 2020 season with its first 14 contests on the road, a common theme for teams from the northern states. The Raiders will travel to take on three SEC foes in weekend series (Mississippi State, Auburn, Tennessee), play a midweek contest with Louisville out of the ACC, and travel to play at Western Kentucky, along with a short trip to take on in-state foe Miami (OH), before its first scheduled home game on March 10. The Raiders were 14-10 on the road last season, playing their first eight games on the road and tallying a 4-4 mark in that first swing – including wins at then-No. 9 East Carolina, then-No. 10 Ole Miss and then-No. 19 Oklahoma State.Â
