The Wright State baseball team split Saturday's doubleheader at Youngstown State, dropping the first game of the day 4-0 before a 20-8 offensive explosion in the nightcap.

The Raiders 13-7, 13-2 HL) and Youngstown State (10-12, 5-6 HL) will wrap up the series on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.

The 20 runs scored in the second game were the most runs the Raiders have scored since a 25-0 victory over Wilmington College in March 2013, while the Wright State record for runs in a game is 32 – set against Youngstown State on April 5, 2012.

In Saturday's opener, Wright State couldn't get its bats going, finishing with five hits, while the Penguins had one big hit prove to be the difference. Youngstown State scored three runs in the fourth, first when Jeff Wehler stole third and came home on an errant throw, before Turner Grau connected on a two-run homer. The Penguins added a final run with an RBI single by Blaze Glenn in the sixth.

Despite just the five hits, the Raiders had several chances, finishing with nine runners left on, including stranding the bases loaded in the second and leaving a pair on late in both the sixth and seventh frames.

Damon Dues had two of the Raiders' five hits, adding a stolen base, while
Bradley Brehmer was saddled with the loss, allowing three runs on three hits with seven strikeouts in five innings.

The nightcap saw the Wright State bats heat up, was the Raiders scored in six different innings, hanging an eight spot in the fourth inning, along with multiple runs in the third, sixth, seventh and eighth as well.

The scoring got started with a
Zane Harris RBI single in the first before a
Konner Piotto RBI double and a two-run homer from
Alex Alders in the third inning. The eight-run fourth was highlighted by a two-run single from Piotto and an RBI double from Alders, while Dues and
Quincy Hamilton also drove in runs in the frame.

Wright State had its share of extra-base hits to drive in multiple runs from there, with
Alec Sayre connecting on a two-run double in the sixth before
Gehrig Anglin tallied an RBI double of his own in the seventh. Harris belted a two-run homer to right field in the seventh as well, while
Justin McConnell had a two RBI double in the eighth to wrap up the Raider scoring.

Sayre finished with three hits in the second game, while Harris, Piotto and Alders all had three RBI. Sayre and McConnell with 2 RBI each as the Raiders had seven extra-base hits in the contest.

Austin Cline earned the win, striking out five and allowing one run on four hits over five innings before
Brock Nartker,
Henry Von Hollen and
Donnie Nicodemus combined for the final four innings out of the bullpen.

Jon Snyder took the loss for Youngstown State after giving up three runs and four hits with five walks over the opening 2.2 innings, while Glenn and Dylan Swarmer each had three hits in the loss.
