
Raiders win Xavier Invitational; Goecke grabs individual honors

MAINEVILLE, OH – The Wright State golf team got back to its winning ways on Tuesday as the Raiders were the only team to finish under par on the way to the team title at the Xavier Invitational as Tyler Goecke captured top individual honors as well.

Wright State jumped out of the gates and never looked back, carding a team 279 score over the opening 18 holes before an even par 288 in round two and a four-under 284 score in the final round to finish at 13-under, 24 shots ahead of second-place Austin Peay. The field also included Horizon League foes Northern Kentucky (fifth, +20) and Oakland (tied for sixth, +21).

Goecke tallied a tournament-low 65 in his final round on Tuesday and finished under par in all three rounds, carding a three-under 69 and a two-under 70 before the seven-under final round. He recorded six birdies in both of his first two rounds before eight birdies over his final 18 holes. Mikkel Mathiesen finished tied for third at four-under overall, firing a two-under 70 and a four-under 68 before finishing with a final round two-over 74, as he recorded 11 total birdies across his 54 holes.

Shane Ochs was tied for 12th at one-over, while Cole Corder was one shot back and tied for 16th. Ochs opened with a two-under 70 before a two-over 74 and finished up the tournament with a one-over 73, scattering 12 total birdies throughout his three rounds. Corder carded an even par 72 in his opening round before a two-over 74 and another even par 72 to close his scorebook with 12 total birdies of his own. Davis Root rounded out the Raider lineup with a six-over finish in a tie for 29th, opening with a one-over 73 in his first round that featured an eagle before a two-over 74 and a three-over final round 75 with six birdies to go along with the eagle.

Wright State will wrap up the fall with the Dayton Flyer Invitational on October 17 and 18 and NCR Country Club.
