DAYTON — The Wright State women's basketball program returns to road competition against No. 4 Ohio State on Wednesday afternoon at Value City Arena. The non-conference matchup will tipoff at 3 p.m. and broadcast live on Big Ten Network Plus.

LAST TIME OUT
Wright State earned its first victory of the 2022-23 season last week, taking down Ohio Christian 98-37 in front of 2,915 fans in its annual Education Day game. The Raiders shot a season-high 59 percent (37-of-62) from the field, scoring 50 points in the paint and 24 points off turnovers. The WSU bench accounted for 62% of its offensive production with 61 points, as every non-starter recorded a field goal.
Five players scored in double figures, led by Lauren Scott with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting to go along with a team-leading seven rebounds and five assists. Makiya Miller finished 12 points and six rebounds, while Bryce Nixon and Channing Chappell tallied 11 points apiece. Kacee Baumhower contributed with 10 points, five rebounds, three assists, and two blocks in the winning effort.
SCOUTING THE BUCKEYES
Ohio State climbed to No. 4 in the latest Associated Press (AP) top-25 poll after a 4-0 start to the 2022-23 campaign. The Buckeyes opened the season with an 87-75 victory over nationally-ranked Tennessee and followed with wins over Boston College (82-64), Ohio (86-56), and McNeese State (99-43). Ohio State last hosted a Horizon League program in 2020, taking down Northern Kentucky 96-63.
OSU has averaged 88.5 points through four games, good for 12th in the country. Taylor Mikesell — a selection to the Wooden Award Watch List and Naismith Trophy Watch List — is averaging a team-best 17.0 points per game. Rebeka Mikulasikova (16.3 ppg), Jacy Sheldon (14.5 ppg), and Taylor Thierry (10.5 ppg) are also scoring in double figures. Defensively, the Buckeyes lead the nation with 34.0 turnovers forced per game and rank second with 19.8 steals per game.

Wednesday will mark the fifth-ever meeting between Wright State and Ohio State and the first since the 2012-13 season. The Buckeyes lead 4-0 in the all-time series, winning each matchup by 30-plus points.
SHE'S JUST A FRESHMAN
Makiya Miller has scored in double figures in her first three games as a Raider, becoming the first freshman player in the last 17 seasons to do so. The Reynoldsburg, Ohio native scored a team-leading 14 points in just 19 minutes in her collegiate debut at Toledo (11/7), followed by 10 points against Bowling Green (11/14) and a 12-point showing versus Ohio Christian (11/17) at home. The Reynoldsburg, Ohio native leads WSU in points per game (12.0), field goal makes (13), free throw makes (7), free throw attempts (9), and assists per game (4.0) through three games.

The Raiders rank 28th in the country and third in the Horizon League with 9.0 3-pointers per game. Emily Chapman, Channing Chappell, and Bryce Nixon are tied for first on the team with four threes apiece.

Emily Chapman and Isabelle Bolender played under current Raider head coach Kari Hoffman for multiple seasons at nearby Cedarville University. Chapman, a two-time All-GMAC selection, earned NCCAA All-America Second Team honors in Hoffman's final season with the Yellowjackets after averaging 13.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists. Bolender averaged 11.9 points on 51% shooting in 60 career games at Cedarville, earning GMAC Freshman of the Year in 2020 and NCCAA Midwest Region First Team accolades the following season.
BASKETBALL RUNS IN THE FAMILY
Freshman guard Lauren Scott is the granddaughter of College Basketball Hall of Fame coach Gary Williams, who led the Maryland men's basketball program to its first-ever NCAA Tournament Championship in 2002. The current Big Ten Network college basketball analyst also served as head coach for American (1978-82), Boston College (1982-86), and Ohio State (1986-89).
