DAYTON — The Wright State baseball program will continue its Horizon League slate with back-to-back doubleheaders this weekend. The Raiders will host Northern Kentucky for a noon doubleheader on Saturday, April 23, before heading to Chicago for a 1 p.m. ET doubleheader at UIC on Sunday, April 23. All four games will air on ESPN+, while live stats will also be available.Â

LAST TIME OUT
Wright State is coming off a 9-3 midweek loss at Dayton, evening the season series at one win apiece. The Raiders trailed 3-1 entering the sixth inning, but UD combined for six runs over the next two frames to put the game out of reach. Sammy Sass led WSU by going 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. Wright State leads the all-time series 94-67. Last weekend, the teams met for three games at Nischwitz Stadium, where WSU dropped the opener 8-6 before bouncing back with a 5-3 victory in game two. The Flames garnered a 6-5 win in 10 innings to clinch the series on Saturday.Â
A year ago, the Raiders advanced to the Horizon League Championship title game with a 15-4 win versus UIC. Quincy Hamilton shined at the plate with a pair of roundtrips and five RBI. Tyler Black and Sammy Sass also homered, while Damon Dues added two hits and a stolen base.
SCOUTING THE NORSE
NKU is 13-21 overall and 7-7 in conference play, highlighted by three wins at Youngstown State. To date, WSU has been the only conference program to sweep the Norse. On February 25, Northern Kentucky defeated defending NCAA Champion Mississippi State, taking down the No. 7 Bulldogs 7-6.Â
The Norse have one of the top offenses in the HL, as they lead the conference in doubles (71) and hits (326) and rank second in batting average (.275) and slugging percentage (.427). Manny Vorhees tops the League in doubles (14) and runs batted in (34), while Brennan Gick is batting .310 with eight homers and 21 RBI. Relief pitcher Bryson Lonsbury has shined on the mound with a 2.97 ERA and three saves in 30.1 innings. The graduate student has allowed just one run over his last five appearances.

The Raiders have won 12-straight games against NKU dating back to 2019. This season, Wright State combined for 49 runs en route to a Horizon League series sweep at Northern Kentucky. Among fourth-year D1 coaches entering the season, he possessed the top winning percentage (.680), fewest losses, and third-most wins. Sogard collected 2021 ABCA/ATEC East Coach of the Year honors after guiding WSU to the 2021 Knoxville Regional. The Phoenix, Arizona, native led the Raiders to a 42-17 record in 2019, the most wins by a first-year head coach in program history. Wright State beat three ranked teams in 2019 and took down top-ranked Louisville in the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign before going 35-13 in 2021 on the way to the Horizon League regular season and tournament titles. In June 2021, Sogard was named to the 2021 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team coaching staff.Â
