Zane Harris and
Alec Sayre earned 2022 East-ABCA/Rawlings All-Region honors, announced on Wednesday. The teams were voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process was led by the ABCA NCAA Division II All-America Committee.
Harris was selected to the NCAA Division I East All-Region First Team, while Sayre was a Second Team All-Region honoree. As a member of the All-Region First Team, Harris will be eligible for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors.
The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-American teams will be announced on June 17. The finalists for the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I Gold Glove Team will be announced on June 20, and the Gold Glove winners in all divisions will be announced on June 22. In all divisions, ABCA/Rawlings National Position Player and Pitchers of the Year will be announced on June 27.
Harris collected All-Region honors for the second year in a row after batting .308 with 15 doubles, two triples, nine homers, 67 runs batted in, and 41 runs scored in 56 starts as WSU's primary designated hitter. He led the Horizon League in RBI and sacrifice flies (7) while possessing top-10 conference marks in hits (6th, 64), doubles (7th), home runs (8th), and runs (9th). Harris broke a school record in career sac flies (18) and moved to second in program history with 197 career RBI.
The sixth-year senior was named to the Horizon League Second Team following the regular season and added All-Tournament Team honors at the Horizon League Championship and the NCAA Blacksburg Regional.
Sayre collected All-Region accolades for the second-straight season, as he batted .358 with 18 doubles, one triple, 10 homers, 54 RBI, 63 runs, and nine stolen bases in 56 starts. The Dover, Ohio native finished the year as the Horizon League leader in batting average, hits (82), doubles, runs, and OPS (1.022). The Horizon League Player of the Year also possessed top-five HL marks in homers (3rd, 10), RBI (3rd), on-base percentage (3rd, .446), slugging percentage (3rd, .576), and walks (5th, 35).
In addition to becoming the fourth-straight Raider to receive HL Player of the Year honors, Sayre earned a spot on the Horizon League Championship All-Tournament Team.
Wright State finished the season with a 30-27 record this spring and won its fifth Horizon League Championship in the last seven seasons, advancing to the Blacksburg Regional of the NCAA Championship.
