Volleyball set to host pair of matchups in McLin this weekend

DAYTON — The Wright State volleyball team opens its Horizon League home schedule this weekend as the Raiders welcome Milwaukee for a Friday night matchup before a meeting with Green Bay on Saturday. Both matches are expected to be streamed on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT
Wright State opened Horizon League play with a three-set sweep over Cleveland State last Friday night as Lainey Stephenson passed out 40 assists in the win to move into third-place all-time in program history. The Raiders got rolling early and never looked back as Taylor Bransfield finished with a match-high 16 kills and Megan Alders added 11 of her own. Callie Martin added the lone double-double of the night with 10 kills and 17 digs, while Jenna Story and Jenny Morey each had a pair of service aces. On Saturday, the Raiders swept Oakland as Callie Martin and Sam Ott led the Raiders as both tallied double-doubles, with Martin recording a match-high 15 kills and adding 11 digs and Ott notching 12 kills and 13 digs.
CLIMBING TO THE TOP
Lainey Stephenson moved into third-place all-time in program history with a 40 assist performance on Sept. 23. Stephenson is now closing in on second-place, currently held by Lisa Dearden (4,657 assists, 1993-1996). Mandy Gels (1999-2002) is the Wright State program leader with 5,044 assists in her career.
RECENT HISTORY WITH THE OPPONENTS
Wright State has won four of the last five matchups with Milwaukee, including a four set victory in McLin Gym last fall. The Raiders have won five straight in the series against Green Bay, which has seen four of those five meetings come in Dayton after the COVID pandemic briefly altered scheduling and home-and-away yearly series.

The solid setting has led the Raiders to the No. 66 mark nationally with 702 kills, aided by their 37.31 attacks/set ratio, No. 13 nationally. Defensively, Wright State is No. 6 nationally with a 17.20 digs/set average an No. 21 nationally with 929 total digs. Lainey Stephenson was named the Horizon League Player of the Week on Sept. 28 passing out 89 total assists Sept. 23 and 24, finishing the weekend with a 12.71 assists/set average while adding 21 digs Stephenson also tallied five kills, four blocks and a service ace to her final weekend stat line.
KEEPING IT 100
Four Raiders have eclipsed the 100 kill mark through 13 matches, with all four averaging over two kills a set. Sam Ott leads the way with 160 kills (2.96 kills/set), followed by Callie Martin (142 kills, 2.63 kills/set), Taylor Bransfield (129 kills, 2.39 kills/set) and Megan Alders (114 kills, 2.38 kills/set).
